The problem

Why Indian investors should consider global funds.

The rupee has lost purchasing power against the dollar for decades. If your goals are dollar-priced, your portfolio needs to account for it.

FAQ

Global investing from India, explained.

Plain answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is the minimum investment in GIFT City funds?
The minimum investment in GIFT City funds is USD 5,000, equivalent to approximately Rs 4.3 lakh at current exchange rates. This applies to the DSP Global Equity Fund. You transfer funds from your Indian bank account in Indian rupees, and the bank converts and remits them in USD under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme.
Is GIFT City investing legal and regulated?
Yes, GIFT City investing is fully legal and regulated in India. GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) is India's International Financial Services Centre, regulated by IFSCA (International Financial Services Centres Authority). Funds here are compliant with RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and are distributed by SEBI and AMFI-registered distributors like CashRich.
What is LRS and is there a tax when I send money abroad?
LRS stands for Liberalised Remittance Scheme, an RBI framework that allows every resident Indian to remit up to USD 250,000 per financial year abroad for permitted purposes including investments. There is no TCS (Tax Collected at Source) if your total yearly remittances stay under Rs 10 lakh; above that threshold, 20% TCS applies, but it is fully adjustable against your income tax liability, exactly like advance tax. As per current provisions.
Will I pay tax when I withdraw from a GIFT City fund?
GIFT City retail funds settle applicable tax at the fund level, so you do not pay additional tax on those gains at the time of withdrawal. There is nothing extra to compute when you redeem. As per current tax provisions for IFSC retail schemes. Please consult your tax advisor for your specific situation.
What currency is my investment in, and what happens when I redeem?
Your investment is denominated and tracked in US dollars. When you invest, your Indian rupees are converted to USD by your bank and remitted to GIFT City under LRS. When you redeem, the fund returns USD, which your bank converts back to INR at the prevailing exchange rate. If the rupee has weakened since you invested, you receive proportionally more rupees on redemption.
How is this different from US stock-trading apps?
GIFT City funds are regulated entirely within India, so there is no foreign broker account to maintain and no overseas tax filing required. US stock-trading apps typically involve a foreign brokerage account, US tax reporting obligations, and direct single-stock risk. GIFT City funds are professionally managed, diversified, and distributed by SEBI and AMFI-registered advisors through familiar Indian processes.
Can I withdraw anytime?
GIFT City funds are open-ended and can generally be redeemed on business days, but processing times may be longer than domestic mutual funds due to the international nature of the investments. Liquidity is lower than domestic mutual funds, so these investments are best suited for goals that are at least 3 to 5 years away.
What are the risks of investing in GIFT City funds?
GIFT City funds carry equity market risk: the value of your investment can fall significantly if global markets decline. They also carry currency risk in both directions: while rupee depreciation works in your favour, a strengthening rupee would reduce your INR returns. Liquidity is lower than domestic mutual funds. These are very high-risk equity investments suitable for long-term goals of 5 years or more. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Please read all scheme-related documents carefully before investing.
Who can invest in GIFT City funds?
All resident Indians with a valid PAN card and an Indian bank account can invest. You invest under RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), which allows up to USD 250,000 per person per financial year. No foreign broker account or overseas bank account is needed; the entire process is routed through your Indian bank.
How are GIFT City funds different from older international mutual funds in India?
Older international mutual funds in India repeatedly closed to new investments due to industry-wide limits on overseas exposure. GIFT City funds operate under a separate IFSCA framework and are not bound by those limits, so they remain open for fresh investments from resident Indians.
How does the investment process work step by step?
It works in four steps. First, you transfer funds from your Indian bank account in rupees. Second, your bank converts to USD and remits to GIFT City under LRS using a short Form A2. Third, the fund invests in global equities and your value is tracked in US dollars. Fourth, when you redeem, the fund returns USD which your bank converts back to INR at the prevailing rate and credits to your account.
What does CashRich handle for me?
Everything end-to-end: KYC, Form A2, bank remittance paperwork, fund selection, and ongoing portfolio tracking. You don't have to figure out any of it on your own.
Is CashRich a registered distributor?
Yes. CashRich (CR CashRich Fintech Private Limited) is an AMFI-registered mutual fund distributor, serving Indian families through market cycles since 2018.
Will I get human support or just a chatbot?
You get a named relationship manager who understands your goals, not a chatbot. Ask questions, discuss your situation, and invest with clarity.
